For the first time in Finland Leonard Bernstein’s operetta Candide will be premiered on the stage of Savoy Theatre on the 25th of August 2018. The following performances will be held on the 26th, 28th, 29th and 30th of August 2018.
The significance of the premiere is highlighted by the jubilee of the maestro Leonard Bernstein, who was born 100 years ago – on the 25th of August 1918.
Isn’t this exceptional? Just like two unique diamonds in the crown of the beautiful performances.
While drums are getting calmer, let’s familiarize with the operetta.
Candide’s plot, though relatively altered along the way by the number of librettists, still captures the main shape of the story, originated by Voltaire.
The operetta projects the humor and realities across the times and is definitely talking to our hearts in the contemporary language.
The director Tuomas Parkkinen accomplishes an entertaining and charmingly dramatic guidance, which conveys the outstanding performance that can be enjoyed equally
by opera -, operetta – and music – lovers.

The vivid optimism of the story is delivered musically through a fusion of styles, whose diversity reflects the circumstances in which Candide finds himself. Leonard Bernstein’s recognizable style is accompanied by the vision of Tuomas Parkkinen, aimed at bringing up the most of the poignancy at the heart of the story.
